Insanity in Crawford, OR How to shoot your cause in the foot

To exploit the death of your child for political gain is repulsive. In every sense of the word. Her son gave his life defending America. Rather than mourn in private, and respect the memory of her son, she has made her son and herself the center of a media frenzy that is now out of her hands. Her family has reportedly asked her to stop this spectacle. I would agree with them, except that I think Sheehan serves a greater purpose.

She is showing the world that the 1960's leftist crowd is still alive and well and doing what they do best. Making sure that we all know how much they hate America and her allies. (As if we were not aware. Protest Warriors have known and worked against these misguided folks for over a year, at least, but this time major media is ALL over it. Must be the mom thing.)

To malign this poor woman would satisfy me personally, I admit that, but it would be wrong. She is doing more damage with the support of MoveOn.org than I could EVER manage with my Blog and the Texas Protest Warriors!

I say let the protesters do their thing . . . because hippies in tie-dye in 2005 are SO effective!

All she needs to do is keep talking . . . keep making the ridiculous statements such as:

"My son was killed in 2004. I am not paying my taxes for 2004. You killed my son, George Bush, and I don't owe you a penny...you give my son back and I'll pay my taxes. Come after me (for back taxes) and we'll put this war on trial." (Yeah, do that and see how that works out for you. The IRS does not care who you are. They would go after the Pope if they thought he was holding out on them . . . And, this begs the question, as a liberal, shouldn't she be HAPPY to pay those taxes??)

Or this:

"Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full well that my son, my family, this nation and this world were betrayed by George Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agendas after 9/11."

I wonder if Al Franken is worried that he may be replaced at Air America . . . because pearls of wisdom, jewels like this are SURE to land her a major media gig! I wonder if all her new found fame will keep her warm at night.

I wonder if the media will still be calling after Bush goes back to D.C. and America loses interest.

I'm going to have to disagree that she is exploiting her sons death in any way. Are people exploiting her? Oh, absolutely, no question. But until you lose a son or daughter (and one hopes no one has to go through that), it's difficult to paint how they are going to react.

She is having a breakdown, and the far far left is encouraging her, rather than trying to help her. Sure, she made this a public spectacle, but I don't doubt that she is sincere, and I don't doubt that her current recollection of the previous meeting with Bush has somehow been altered at her whim. She went over it in her head again and again, and where she once saw sincerity, she now sees callousness; where she once saw kindness, she now sees aloofness.

Losing a child can...well, it can mess you up royally. She is coping, but she's doing it in a way that's not terribly healthy for her, nor for her family. What's really happening with Sheehan is a very public, very media-centric grieving process. She's in an elongated state of grief, so I can't really blame her for her actions.

On the other hand, I have no forgiveness for those trying to exploit her and use her grief as a sick political game, from either side of the line. For those people, I have nothing but enmity.

Cindy went down to Crawford to stir up media attention. She knew what she was about. Who could resist the story of the army mother, just wanting a few scraps of the Presidents VACATION time to ask why her beloved son had to die in a war she feels is wrong.

How could the media resist!!!

Now, how big this protest has become is not ALL her doing, but she set the ball rolling. She went down there to shake things up, to stir the pot.

I agree, losing a child must be a true horror. People do strange things in the grip of that kind of trauma. BUT, in this case, she may have started out as a mother, hurt and angry about losing her son, but like a butterfly she has transformed into a liberal warrior using her son, rest his soul, as a shield against her detractors.

That offends me. It offends a lot of people. She made her point weeks ago, now she is in it for thrills.

Thanks for commenting!! Come back soon!!!

See, based on the son she raised (and the fact that she immediately rushed to the side of her mother after she had her stroke), I don't think she'd simply abandon her caring for him and simply exploit his death. I don't buy it.

I do believe her grief and pain has been transformed by the far left here and flourished, but I don't think she is exploiting his death. I don't buy that a caring mother (by all accounts), who raised such a fine son, would do something like that.

I think her actions have mostly been encouraged and enraged grief, rather than that of the person you view her as.

Then again, I could be wrong, but I just don't buy the argument.
