7/28/05 FOX Poll: Nominee John Roberts Seen As Qualified

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,163958,00.html

“The small level of opposition to Roberts’ nomination indicates the public has yet to hear anything they consider controversial about the nominee,” comments Opinion Dynamics Corporation Vice President Lawrence Shiman."

He is charming, good looking, has a solid record as a lawyer, cute kids, and a very nice looking wife. He has never said or done anything that would give the Democrats any fuel for the filibuster fire they are so keen on.

I am not entirely sure that is a good thing.

Where EXACTLY does he stand? How can we know if he will not offer any opinion, make any statement, that might anger the Libs. (I love angry Libs. When Libs don't like it, it must be good!)

I trust Bush. He is a good leader, and while I am not keen on his expansion of the Federal machine, I do not think he would pick an unqualified candidate, or a candidate that he does not think would be all that Bush has promised us. But, will Robert's turn out like his father's pick? (Let's face it, David H. Souter was a BAD choice.) Or, will we have another Sandra Day O'Connor?? (Not one of Reagan's best choices, God rest his soul)

The mind reels.

Mr. Roberts, if you could, please give me some hope, one bone to gnaw on, a SCRAP of hope. Give me some indication that you will uphold the Constitution, you will not legislate from the bench, or use the bench as your own personal bully pulpit. That you will follow the path of Scalia and Thomas. Be what this nation needs.

Be a conservative!

P.S. As for the issue of his refusing to answer questions, this is a prescient set by Ruth Bader Ginsburg. If the Libs start losing their minds over this, I really wish that some brave and out-spoken Conservative would remind them of this. They started it, like it or lump it! (Neener-neener-neener!)

Senate's Leader Veers From Bush Over Stem Cells

"WASHINGTON, July 28 - In a break with President Bush, the Senate Republican leader, Bill Frist, has decided to support a bill to expand federal financing for embryonic stem cell research, a move that could push it closer to passage and force a confrontation with the White House, which is threatening to veto the measure."

I am not a little surprised. His background in medicine would indicate that he is sympathetic to the research side of this issue.

This issue is black and white. As much as I dislike the idea of stem cell research, because I am opposed to using humans (and even if they are not fully developed, they are humans, I don't care what shine you put on the apple) for experimentation. Granted, this embryonic material is already available, but I have a MORAL objection to this kind of research.

I feel for the people who are suffering with disability and disease who think this research will help them. I truly do. I am not heartless, but I also respect human life.

This is a dilly of a pickle!

I can really only support a Presidential veto in this matter.

Bush may bypass Senate and appoint Bolton to UN

http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/nm/20050725/pl_nm/bush_bolton_dc_3

"WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House signaled on Monday that President Bush may bypass the Senate and appoint John Bolton, his embattled nominee for U.N. ambassador, to the post temporarily as hope faded for a Senate vote on the nomination."

"McClellan declined to say whether Bolton would receive a recess appointment.

But when asked in general about possible recess appointments, McClellan said, "If the Senate fails to act and move forward on those nominees, then sometimes there comes a point where the president has needed to fill that in a timely manner by recessing those nominees."

YES!! It is time for Bush to put the hammer down on this one. The Senate should do it's job, and if they can't then Bush is OBLIGATED to make the appointment any way he can.

Good luck, and well done NASA!!
